Because all children should have access to good books and enjoy a love of reading, Santo Insurance & Financial Services, Inc. is proud to partner with Miss Gate City’s Outstanding Teen, Julia Coryea, on an end-of-year book drive. This book-raising endeavor will begin November 14, 2016 and last for the remainder of the year.
Miss Coryea, who competes in the Miss New Hampshire’s Outstanding Teen, a division of the Miss America Scholarship Program, has made access to books for all children her passion. Julia explains her interest in this effort saying, “I have chosen ‘Read to Succeed’ as my platform not only because of my passion for literacy, but also because 42% of New Hampshire students grades 3 to 11 fail to meet proficiency in English Language Arts. Studies show that better readers are better students, and I want to encourage children to read more frequently.”
James Santo, owner of Santo Insurance & Financial Services, Inc. states, “Julia’s passion for promoting a love of reading has inspired us to further her efforts and reinforce the importance of literacy in the community, helping to put books into the hands of children who lack books in their homes, and to encourage the journey toward being a life time reader.”
This early winter book drive will also incorporate the Woodbury Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society members, and will offer collection sites both at the Woodbury Middle School and Santo’s office located at 224 Main Street in Salem. Seeking books of all interests, topics and reading levels, Coryea notes that items collected will be donated to educational youth programs across southern New Hampshire, including the Nashua Boys & Girls Club.

ABOUT MISS GATE CITY’S OUTSTANDING TEEN
Julia Coryea was crowned Miss Gate City’s Outstanding Teen on September 25, 2016. In February, she will compete for Miss New Hampshire’s Outstanding Teen, a division of the Miss America Scholarship Program. As part of her community service element Julia has chosen “Read to Succeed” as her platform to encourage children to read more frequently. She has completed two successful book drives previously, collecting over 400 books which were donated to children across southern New Hampshire. Julia has also visited over a dozen classrooms and relayed the importance of reading to over 200 students. Daughter of Paul and Lynne Coryea, she is a 15-year-old sophomore at Salem High School. Participating in Key Club as a representative, Best Buddies as treasurer, and Kindness Matters as a member, Julia continues to be involved in her community. Julia is also a three-season athlete participating in the school’s field hockey, cheerleading, and lacrosse teams, in addition she has been tap dancing since the age of three years old, and will be dancing for the talent portion of the state competition in February.
